Bude Hockey Club is a longstanding friendly and successful club based in North Cornwall, which welcome players of any age or ability.
For many years, training has taken place at Bude Community Leisure Centre, but increasing problems with the facilities have forced the Club’s senior team to go elsewhere as the nights close in.
The new venue from 30th October will be across the border at Holsworthy Leisure Centre, involving lift sharing to cut costs for members. Light outages and poor condition of the astro turf at Bude Community Leisure, which has developed over a couple of years, has led to the committee decision to reluctantly change venues on grounds of safety.
The astro turf and sports hall have long been used to encourage sport in Bude, bringing all ages and abilities together in the community through sport. It has always been an asset to the community, but it seems that is in danger of changing.
The Hockey Club desperately wants to stay at Budehaven, but with so few lights working (it is unsafe to play in the dark on an ill-lit pitch) but fees rising, they have had to make the difficult decision to move on.
On Bude Notice Board Facebook page, there are a number of pertinent public comments with Paul Cholwill mentioning that (ironically) the Hockey Club helped to fund the facility it can no longer play on.
The Leisure Centre is overseen by Budehaven School.
