This morning, the Cabinet has unanimously approved a balanced draft budget plan for 2023/24.
Cllr David Harris, deputy leader of Cornwall Council and portfolio holder for resources, said:
“… our current budget assumptions include a rise in Council Tax of 4.99%, including a 2% Adult Social Care precept for 2024/25, equating to an increase of £1.73 per week on a Band D property.”
“This budget focuses on ensuring we spend the money we have on the things that matter most to our residents. That means focusing on those essential statutory services like social care, housing and waste collection, while critically reviewing those services which we have a choice to, rather than are obliged to provide.”
Word in local media is that Cornwall Council’s Cabinet is also proposing a further 5% increase on the current, confusing and controversial parking charges.
If our money is to be spent on “what we want” does that mean no more assisting space ventures or supporting a business that took away a prestigious museum that brought revenue to Cornwall.
