Devon Fire Service attended a barn fire at a farm near Lutsford Cross this week on 7th August at 7.35am. The barn contained hay and there was a considerable amount of smoke noticeable across Bursdon Moor.

The first appliance arrived from Hartland with appliances also on the way from Bude, Bideford, Barnstaple (a water carrier) and Appledore, and later other areas.

The large agricultural building measuring 30m by 30m contained 80 tons of hay, 80 tons of grain and miscellaneous farm machinery. It was well alight.

Fire crews continued to work on this and turn over and dampen down the hay as well as removing it to another area of the farm. Fire crews were at the fire for much of the day.
