From Devon & Cornwall Police:
Officers were called at around 3.40pm on Sunday 4 June to the B3230 at Muddiford, Barnstaple following a report of a two-car collision.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 70-year-old woman, was confirmed deceased at the scene. Enquiries remain ongoing to locate and inform her next of kin.
A 37-year-old man from Barnstaple was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in custody at this time.
The road was closed in both directions while the scene was examined by Specialist forensic collision investigators.
Police are appealing for any witnesses that have not already been spoken to that may have seen the collision, or have dash camera footage, to contact police.
