More about St MORITZ HOTEL & COWSHED SPA www.stmoritzhotel.co.uk

The St Moritz Hotel first opened in the 1940s when city dwellers rejoiced in the opportunity to getaway and feel the freedom and vital fresh air benefits of both coast and country, after the war. Mr and Mrs Richard Underwood dedicated their lives to creating the ultimate, glamourous hotel experience in the enigmatic setting of Trebetherick in North Cornwall.

The Underwoods developed a hotel concept that led with international trends in terms of hospitality, interiors and gastronomy in every way.  Before long St Moritz had developed a significant reputation and following amongst the highest levels of UK society.

Politicians, film stars, business leaders, bishops and poets and writers flocked to St Moritz every year as an annual pilgrimage, escaping the stresses of city life to admire the stunning views, frolic in the surf and enjoy the highest levels of personal service and care courtesy of the Underwoods and their St Moritz team.

Over the coming decades those in the know made an annual pilgrimage to the tiny village with its links golf course and famous crooked church.  Halcyon days were spent on the surrounding beaches, in sail boats and long swimsuits, with evenings under the glittering lights of the restaurant enjoyed with clinking cocktails and the finest of gastronomy, all proudly presented with the finest of decorative touches.

Today is no different.  Under the guidance of brothers Hugh and Steve Ridgway in 2009 St Moritz Hotel was utterly reborn.  Taking their creative 21st century approach to the original experience, they rebuilt the building alongside Cornish designers Absolute, following a the classic styling of the art deco era, re-imagining the ultimate coastal hotel holiday experience for global travellers and holidaymakers of all ages.

15 years now and things have changed, but St Moritz is still very much the style leader on the North Cornish coast.

The same people make the annual pilgrimage each year, pining for the pretty lanes, long beaches, fresh but gentle sea air.  Many who originally played in the rockpools many decades ago bring their children and now grandchildren back, all seeking the enduring ‘classicism’ of the location, and the experience.  They come to enjoy the comfort and style of today’s St Moritz with its up-to-the-minute spa treatments, the ultimate in locally sourced cuisine and all the simple pleasures of their beloved North Cornwall playground.
