From Devon & Cornwall Police:
Police have reassured the residents of Bideford after an incident yesterday, which saw a large police presence in the town, including armed officers.
Five people have been arrested and officers said they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
They also said there is an increased police presence in the town to provide reassurance.
Police were called at 3.45pm on 21 February to reports of a man having been injured during an incident after a group of people had entered a property in Pridham Place.
One man sustained a head injury but left the property before police arrival. The suspects also fled the address in a vehicle.
Firearms and local officers attended and carried out an area search.
The injured man was located at an address in the town centre at around 5.55pm. He was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening or life-changing.
Four people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated burglary.
One person has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
Those arrested range in age from 32-59, are all from the Bideford area and remain in police custody.
