You will all be aware that it is Shrove Tuesday today, or to many people, Pancake Day! Some people also call it ‘Fat Tuesday’.

For Christians, Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence. It is also associated with clearing your cupboards of goods such as sugar, fats, and eggs.

Pancakes were traditionally eaten on this day to use up such foods before the 40-day fasting season of Lent began, but there won’t be any 40-day fasting going on here, but if we go back to the original practise in the 40 days from Ash Wednesday, I can readily abstain from eating meat!

Days of the Week website says:

Traditionally, on this day a bell would be rung to call Christians to church before Lent to be absolved of their sins, or “shriven”, which is where the term Shrove Tuesday came from. This is a day of confession in the church.

So, any ideas on where to get the best pancakes in Bude? How do you best like them?
