With a public consultation due to start on proposed rises (in some cases massive) to Cornwall Council car parking charges, the fees are now available.
The ABC of parking means that parking in Bude will be extremely expensive, as Bude will be in Zone A during the peak months:
Zone A – 30mins (short stay only) £1.30; 1hour £2.20; 2hours £4.40; 3hours £5.50; 4hours £6.50; All day 9am to 6pm £10; Evening 6pm to midnight £2.50
Zone B – 30mins (short stay only) 60p; 1hour £1; 2hours £2.40; 3hours £3.60; 4hours £4.80; All day £6
Zone C – 30mins (short stay) 50p; 1hour 90p; 2hours £1.50; 3hours £2; 4hours £2.50; All day £5.50
Crescent, Bude; Crooklets Beach, Bude; Summerleaze Beach, Bude, will all go to Zone B in low season, some recompense for locals, perhaps?
Wharf, Bude, will be Zone B all year round, and Widemouth Bay will be Zone A for high season, Zone C for low.
The proposed parking tariffs are set to be discussed by Cornwall Council’s Cabinet when it meets next week. The full list of parking and zones is here.
The Cabinet will be asked to support the new zonal charges ahead of public consultation which will start on March 2 and finish on March 23.
If the new charges are approved they would be implemented in May 2023.
These charges are far too high. This is a tourist area and we should be doing everything to welcome people to the area. Having worked in Bude I would have felt unwanted in the town. I have known residents who have got to get up early to move their cars to avoid extortionist charges. Charging away customers is a well known banking saying. This will apply to these charges.
Unjustifiable and very short sighted.
Locals will be penalised way above the rate of inflation and tourists driven away. Think again!
Very shortsighted; at the proposed costs I will not be shopping local. There needs to be a residents’ rate to ensure it is affordable to shop eat and play where we live.
That’s one way to kill the town of tourists and probably kill off the shops and B&B’s aswell.. EXTORTIONATE PRICES.. Cannot be allowed to happen.. People are struggling financially already without adding to it
Way too high to attract people into the area to support local businesses.
Surely this will only encourage silly and dangerous parking as people will try to avoid the charges.
