A fascinating talk on the WWII Exercise ‘Tiger’ cover up was given by Dick Bass yesterday evening at the Kitchen Front. Exercise Tiger has become known as one of the most catastrophic disasters of WWII resulting in the deaths of many participating American soldiers and sailors. It was supposed to have been just a ‘practice run’ for the D-Day landings on 6th of June and took place at Slapton Sands in Devon. Having read a book published in 1988 by Ken Small called ‘The Forgotten Dead’ we went along, intrigued by the possibility of learning some new information about this tragedy. We were not disappointed!
Dick Bass gave a very informative and interesting talk based on his own extensive in-depth and thorough investigations into this event. It was a full house of around 30 people and there were excellent refreshments in the form of tea, coffee, wine and cheese and biscuits! Many thanks to Clair Roberts for hosting the evening which we really enjoyed.
