From Devon & Cornwall Police:
Police were called at 12pm today [7 Oct] to St Thomas Road, Launceston, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported that following the collision with a pedestrian, the car collided with a lamppost, where it came to rest.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 60s from Launceston was treated at the scene but sadly confirmed deceased a short time later. Her family have been informed.
The driver of the car was extracted by the Fire service and checked over by the Paramedics at the scene.
A 20-year-old man from Launceston has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
The road remains closed at this time and vehicle recovery is ongoing.
Investigating officers are appealing for anyone with any information and anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam footage to please contact police.
