Whitstone Village Store to become a Spar

Since I moved down here, I have been amazed by the transformation of Whitstone Village Store, Post Office and Cafe Lounge, run by Dan, Viki and family. I have dropped in on occasion when passing that way and always thought what an amazing store it is for locals and passers-by.

Now, after just under 14 years, Dan and Viki have handed over the baton that is Whitstone Stores

The new owners will be Spar. Dan and Viki say on their Facebook page:

We have worked very hard to ensure as many as possible of our passionate local suppliers will continue to stock their produce in store; we are surrounded by the best and again your demand has helped them and us

Now, sadly the cafe bar and carvery will be no more and I can’t thank you enough for the such kind kind words and loyal support.

Sadly the concept of a combined restaurant bar and retail isn’t for Spar but we know they will give you a ultra-modern fantastically well-stocked community convenience store that is resilient and future proof in these tough times for retail, especially when other villages lose their shop and post office and for that we must all be grateful.

Also want to thank the head postmaster of Bude, Luke “franko” Francis for continuing to operate the Post office in Whitstone with the new owners

Please stick with us whilst the shopfit is underway and as always any questions, just ask; we will always do whatever we can to help

It’s been an epic journey, we have been through so much together and now it’s someone else’s turn to put their stamp on it

Not forgetting, of course, absent friends and past customers; many fond memories but it serves to remind us all nothing stays the same forever

Now I have 14 years of accrued holiday to sort!

Shame, as this shop was great, as it had a great cafe and shop. As the village doesn’t have a pub, the cafe made up for that! But now Spar has ripped out the cafe and just replaced it with shelves, Spar has ruined a great shop…
