Typically, I was in Sweden when this happened, so I did not join the hordes who visited to see the unusual sight of a late fin whale stranded at Hartland Quay. It is now a health hazard so it isn’t good to get too close – 10 metres is recommended. The waves pound against the rocky shore and whatever is washed up eventually becomes gobbets. Anyway, this is what is left of the poor old fin whale off Hartland Quay.
