Weekend Covid update for our area

Numbers of positive Covid cases have risen in Cornwall in the 7 days to the 15th August.

The number of cases hit 2232, up by 173.  The case rate per 100,000 is 387.8

In Devon, cases rose to 3037, up by 181, a case rate of 374.6.

Bude & Stratton cases numbered 38, a case rate of 356.2, while Launceston had 50, a case rate of 458.0

Holsworthy, Bradworthy and Welcombe had 36, a case rate of 355.3, while Poundstock and Kilkhampton had 25, a case rate of 330.8

In Cornwall, 953 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 20 August 2021.

Between 14 August 2021 and 20 August 2021, 3,601 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 60.0% compared to the previous 7 days.

Meanwhile, vaccines in Cornwall are as follows:

426,026 people had been given a first dose by the end of 19 August 2021.

378,510 people had been given a second dose by the end of 19 August 2021.

Hospitalisation

 

3 people with coronavirus went into hospital in North Devon on 15 August 2021.

Between 9 August 2021 and 15 August 2021, 13 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 18.2% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 14 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 17 August 2021.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 2 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 17 August 2021.

 

The R Value in the SW is between 0.9 to 1.2.
