Whatever your reason for learning, whether it’s to progress through the grades, play in a concert every now and then or simply for the sheer joy of it, I can help you realise that dream.
After being born into a musical family I began playing the violin when I was 3, and quickly followed on the piano at the age of 5, and the viola at the age of 12. I have been teaching since 2002 in private schools, secondary schools and primary schools since graduating from Trinity College of Music in London. I have also had the great privilege of playing in some wonderful places, including The Royal Albert Hall, St John’s Smith Square, and flying to South Africa to record an album with my Celtic folk rock band as well as touring around the world with various orchestras and music courses.
I have been classically trained but I am happy to follow the path my students wish to pursue, be it classical, or popular music with backing tracks.
The biggest regret I hear from people upon hearing that I am a classical musician is that they either didn’t continue their lessons, or that they didn’t start. It is well documented that learning a musical instrument is incredibly beneficial to children and includes helping with their mathematical ability, an increase in memory and responsibility, time management, reading and comprehension, exposure to cultural history, concentration, listening and social skills, self expression, a sense of achievement, and a release of emotions and feelings. Children who learn a musical instrument from an early age are also linked to having a higher IQ. It can also be an incredibly self loving thing to learn in older years and lessons can provide structure, social interaction and connection, and expression.
Whatever your reason for wanting to learn an instrument, it is never too late to start.
It is for these reasons that I am passionate about providing music lessons for as many adults, schools and children that I am physically able to reach.
