Update on Covid restrictions under Plan B

The government has announced a tightening of restrictions this evening.

The changes include:

  • Guidance to work from home on Monday – obviously, this will not apply to many public sector workers, shop workers, factory workers, etc., who do not have a work from home option.
  • Covid passes proving vaccination (or a negative test) will be required at venues with large crowds, such as nightclubs, and for entry into unseated indoor venues with a capacity of more than 500 people and outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people.
  • From Friday people will be required to wear face masks in all public venues, e.g., cinemas, except when eating, drinking, singing or exercising.

This is due to concerns about increased hospitalisations due to the Omicron virus. Vaccinations and boosters were also pushed as a way forward out of this situation.

These are some of the restrictions listed in the so-called Plan B.

This was all announced in the light of problems for the government under issues arising from ‘partygate’ which has raised serious questions of trust among backbenchers and the public.
