Update on those A39 roadworks in Devon – 3 whole weeks ot it!

It’s all about drainage! Work will take place on the A39 west of Bucks Cross to Dowland Cross between 19 February and 7 March 2018. I thought it was 2 weeks but it is actually 3!

The road will be closed 24hrs a day during this period with a signed diversion route in place. A plan of the diversion route can be seen here.

In order to minimise the length of the closure, some of the drainage and kerbing works will be carried out in advance under temporary traffic lights. The road is too narrow to keep it open. The diversion route is long because it has to be accessible to all vehicles including tractors, HGVS, and other large items. Although local traffic will use side roads, these will not be signposted, and are likely to become difficult and clogged. A reminder of the alternative route is below. You can see that from Bude/Stratton it makes sense to go via the Holsworthy route. For those living in Hartland/Clovelly, it doesn’t but those roads will be tricky at times.

Do please give yourself extra travelling time for trips to Barnstaple Hospital, driving test centres, schools, access to the M5 or Link Road, and stations.
