Trying to Connect Bude

All are welcome on board at Connect Bude’s Public Meeting and AGM Sat 27 Oct 11am – 12 noon at The Falcon Hotel Bude.

Connect Bude, the campaigning group set up on the 50th anniversary of the closure of the railway line to Bude,  has gone from strength to strength over the last two years in its campaign to reconnect Bude and Holsworthy to the National Railway Network.  It has attracted the active support of almost 200 local people, met with local and national politicians and decision-makers and is working hard with colleagues from Okerail to help to achieve the first objective of reopening the line from Exeter to Okehampton.

In  January 2018, the Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling announced that: “We have instructed GWR to prepare plans to introduce regular train services to Okehampton, with the objective of securing a credible and costed plan for delivering an all-week, all-year train service between Exeter and Okehampton as soon as reasonably possible.” Once the start date is announced, which is likely to be late 2019 or early 2020, plans will fall into place to secure a fast direct regular coach link from Bude and Holsworthy to connect with the reinstated rail service at Okehampton. Connect Bude’s next aim will be to work towards a feasibility study to extend the rail line to a Holsworthy Parkway station serving the growing communities of North Cornwall and West Devon. When representatives of Connect Bude met Scott Mann M.P. back in June he joined up as a member of the group and stated that public transport has been poor in his constituency for decades and that he would like to do something about it to improve connectivity for his constituents.

Connect Bude is holding a Public Meeting and AGM at 11 am on Sat 27 Oct at The Falcon Hotel. All are welcome to hear about progress to date, to ask questions and to join the group.  People wishing to become Individual Members (£10 per person), Business Members (£20 per business) and Supporters (£Free) can do so at the meeting or via e-mail to The meeting will end at noon.
