We all know how erratic mobile phone signal can be in this area, so it is great news that Liberal Democrat MP Dan Rogerson is asking local residents to turn ‘phone detective’ and help map phone reception across north Cornwall.
Using the RootMetrics smartphone and tablet app people can automatically use their phone to test and record the strength of mobile phone signals.
The app tests the strength of mobile phone signal and automatically records the result. Both the app and maps available at rootmetrics.co.uk can show which company provides the best service in a particular area.
The information will be used to help the campaign to improve mobile reception in rural areas. I’ve just installed it on my phone!
To take part, all people have to do is download the free RootMetrics app onto their smartphone or tablet and use it when they are at home and out and about.
Dan Rogerson MP said:
“Phone package prices stay the same wherever you live, but mobile phone reception is very variable which means that too many people in our area are not getting a good deal from the phone companies.
“People in north Cornwall will be all too aware of the problems mobile phone users face with signal going down regularly in many areas and some places missing out altogether.
“These “not-spots” are a huge inconvenience to local residents and businesses, so I would encourage local people to download the app today to help in the fight for better mobile phone reception across north Cornwall.”
