Theft of large brass Cornish bell

Police are hunting for audacious thieves who stole a large bronze bell from public gardens in St Austell.

The Warner Bros London 1884 bell was taken from Pine Lodge Gardens at Holmbush overnight on 7/8 November.

The bell, worth £8,000, is two foot tall and two foot in diameter and weighs around a quarter of a tonne.

It was suspended on a steel chain within a brick wall at the roadside entrance to the gardens.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious individuals or vehicles at the gardens at the time of the offence.

They are also appealing to anyone who may been offered the bell for sale, particularly scrap metal, second-hand or antique dealers.
