The day I won a competition from Dad’s Place

Back in July I was utterly thrilled to be chosen at random by local artist Ellen Gowland to win a framed pet portrait in a competition on the Dad’s Place Facebook page.

Dad’s Place owner, Matt Emo, who set up his company in memory of his late father, had commissioned a work from Ellen and was so impressed by its quality that he wanted to spread the word about her by offering a competition. He’s kind like that, an ethos which underpins the work of Dad’s Place, where Matt is trying to work in a way his father would be proud of.

All other entrants received a canvas print,  by the way, courtesy of Matt’s generosity, so everyone was a winner.

I decided to use a picture of my daughter’s dog, not knowing what to expect, and was thrilled with the result which I collected yesterday.

Ellen has painted since she was a child, being largely self-taught except for a couple of short courses in acrylic and oil techniques. Her many animal pictures may be seen here. Ellen doesn’t shout about her work, but you can check out her Facebook page here.

Matt is often seen around Bude. He works hard and is keen to have a community angle to his work. Watch this space.

His website says:

Dad’s place is a site built to commemorate the life and work of talented photographer Alan Emo. Dad specialised in landscape photography and particularly enjoyed capturing sunset pictures from our North Cornwall paradise of Bude and motorcycle pictures from various race tracks around the UK.

Dad’s love for life and adrenaline filled pass times have left us with many happy memories … Now we help our customers capture treasured memories in print.

We are delighted to be able to print your personal images onto canvas. Capturing those special moments of joy and treasured memories in print gave dad a great sense of satisfaction and we are proud to continue his work to the standard he would demand and be proud of.  A standard underpinned by the use of colour calibration software, ensuring that our monitors match exactly the output of our printing equipment and the quality of our media. A combination of quality pigment inks, excellent printing equipment and professionally profiled high quality printing media, all help to ensure the highest quality prints.

At Dad’s Place we really do print images to highest possible standard and more than that we care about the finished product. We’re confident that we can help you to capture your special occasions and most treasured memories. Please send your images to matt@dadsplace.co.uk

The Dad’s Place Facebook Page is here. Matt does business printing and much much more which I didn’t realise.

Do please support your local artists and Bude-based businesses where you can. Matt has invested a good deal of time and money in the business, along with other family members, and is building it using quality equipment and his own considerable computer skills. My sincere thanks to Ellen and Matt for this wonderful prize (I’m one of those who never normally wins anything!) As we say up north, I’m well chuffed with it.
