The benefits of a local wine …

Some time ago, I was given a lovely Devon wine bought at a farmers’ market (as a gift), which I finally tried over Christmas. It was crisp, clean and refreshing – wonderful.

Sadly, when I looked up the makers, Carey Valley Wines, it seems the owner of Uphill Vineyard has sadly retired on grounds of ill health, according to their Facebook page.

Uphill Vineyard was established in 2010 and nestled on the slopes of the Carey valley on the outskirts of Ashwater, on the western border of Devon. The award winning wines were later sold by Dartmoor company, Torview Wines, but on the website the wines available seem to be different (though equally award-winning).

Look out for this one at farmers’ markets, just in case anyone still has supplies! Great to support (relatively) local.
