By Ian at The Barrel:
The Barrel at Bude, ‘probably the best small pub in Cornwall’ has a secret! Hidden inside is ‘The Locker’, a small room that places you inside a cabin, the band still playing as your ship falls into an abyss with a fierce Kracken awaiting!
‘The Locker’, is the idea of Ian O’Hare, owner of The Barrel who, with the help of local artist Steve Pinchess, has created the smallest private bar in Cornwall.
‘I wanted to create a unique space where friends could meet to celebrate special occasions and to also offer a quirky place to enjoy some pre-dinner drinks. I gave myself the challenge of hiding it, so it would be a secret place, something we’ve managed to do’.
Like ‘The Barrel’, The Locker will only serve Cornish drinks during limited opening hours. A party of up to 6 people can reserve The Locker and its private bar for two hours on either a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening, anytime between their 4 pm opening and the 9 pm closing times.
There are four Locker options that can be booked;
The Rum Locker: The bar is stocked with six measures of rum for each person, each handcrafted by Tom Read, Head Distiller at The Cornish Distillery in Nether Barton, located 3 miles from The Barrel. One of these rums has been specially created by Tom to be only served within The Locker.
The Gin Locker: Stocked with six measures of Cornish organic gin for each party member, distilled by David Carbis from the small Atlantic Distillery at Treisaac Farm near Newquay. Like the Rum Locker, one of these spirits has been crafted exclusively for ‘The Locker’.
The Fizz Locker: Stocked and ready to be served is up to three bottles of sparkling wines from vineyards in the Camel Valley, Penzance and St. Austell Bay.
The Full Locker: For those who want a taste it all! Each person will have a double measure of each unique Locker spirt and a glass of Cornish sparkling wine.
‘The Locker’ opens on Thursday, March the 19th and bookings are now being taken. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org with the date, time and Locker option you would like to book or pop into The Barrel at Bude.
