This comes from Scott Mann’s Virgin Money Giving page. Good luck to him in his endeavours and well done for giving it a go! MPs often get knocked for what they do, but this is pretty good!!
On 23rd April this year, just shy of my fast approaching 40th birthday, I’ll be taking to the streets of London covering a distance of 26.2 miles to run The Virgin London Marathon; this will be my first ever Marathon – hoping not my last! – and it will also be the first time a Cornish MP has run the London Marathon!
Through the help of Virgin Money Giving, I’m very proud to be representing and hoping to raise funds for three charities based in North Cornwall: Friends of Bodmin Hospital, Launceston Hospital League of Friends and Stratton Hospital Friends, to help support the wonderful staff, patients and Friends of the Hospitals.
Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I would personally like to thank you for all your support and for any donations pledged and I know the Friends of the Hospitals would all really appreciate your support to sponsor me for the run; all donations are quickly processed and passed to the charities.
Please give generously in raising funds for three terrific charities:
Friends of Bodmin Hospital – www.friendsofbodminhospital.co.uk
Bodmin Community Hospital consists of a major injuries unit, two general wards, a stroke unit, five mental health wards and a Renal Dialysis unit, along with other services. The Friends of Bodmin Hospital work to raise money to provide equipment for staff and care for patients which is not supplied by the NHS.
Launceston Hospital League of Friends – www.launcestonhospital-lof.org.uk
Launceston League of Friends fundraise to provide money for doctors and medical staff to purchase equipment for patients who use the surgery and the many departments at the hospital such as Day Rooms, Physiotherapy, Out-patients, Midwives & Community Nurses, Bereavement Counselling Room and the Occupational Therapy Department.
Stratton Hospital League of Friends – www.strattonhospitalfriends.org.uk
The Stratton Community Hospital has recently had major update plans agreed by the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust. To include Palliative Care Suites within the new design, the Stratton Hospital League of Friends is aiming to raise £1m to equip this facility and help with the refurbishment. To date £750,000 has been raised, which is amazing, however there is still fundraising work to do!
