At the Council meeting on 23 January 2018, Council Leader Adam Paynter informed members that a letter had been received from the three private sector partners leading the delivery of the Stadium for Cornwall project near Truro to request capital funding from Cornwall Council for the Stadium.
The letter from Truro and Penwith College, The Cornish Pirates and Truro City Football Club, was received by the Council on Monday.
Councillor Paynter said that the Council took the decision at a meeting in March 2012 that any request for financial support for this private sector led project would be debated by Full Council.
“I have requested that Council officers investigate the options for the Council and the Government to provide capital funding support to this private sector led project in order to enable the stadium to be delivered in August 2019, in time for the beginning of the academic year and rugby and football seasons.
“The Council’s Cabinet will consider the options and make a decision on whether to provide capital funding support at their meeting on 28 March 2018. If the Cabinet decides to provide funding support, then the Cabinet’s decision will be followed by, and subject to, a vote by all Cornwall Councillors.
“It is my intention to provide this Council with the opportunity to debate this new request fully at the meeting of the Full Council on 17 April 2018.”
