Happy St Piran’s Day – join the walk

On Tuesday 5th March at 5 pm, Vicko will lead the annual St Piran’s Day walk in Bude. The walk starts from the clubhouse of Bude Surf Lifesaving Club, proceeds along the downs, and onto Summerleaze Beach before returning to the club for refreshments. Everyone is welcome, so please join in to celebrate Cornwall.

St Piran’s day is the Cornish National Day. St Piran, patron saint of tin miners, is said to have come across from Ireland in the 6th century, from where he was flung with a millstone around his neck, floating miraculously to Perran Beach in Perranporth.

The Cornish flag is based around a black stone leaking white fluid – St Piran’s discovery of tin! The flag also represents good overcoming evil.
