We arrived close to 4.30 pm to introduce our American guest to a traditional cream tea. She’d done her research and fancied either Margaret’s or Trelawny, so for a change, we opted for Trelawny Tea Room.
Despite arriving so late in the day, we were warmly welcomed at this lovely tea room, where we sat outside in the garden at Widemouth, partaking of irresistible warmed scones, clotted cream and lush jam plus tea in a pot (with water to add to keep it going). The crockery was an array of pretty china, so very traditional and quintessentially English-feeling. We also tried a rather large slice of the homemade courgette, elderflower and lime cake which was lovely and moist.
So, a shout out to Trelawny for lovely, polite, responsive service, providing a wonderful experience for our visitor.
No one rushed us away, so we thoroughly enjoyed a ladies’ afternoon in the sun.
