Listen to Scott Mann on BBC Sounds, who expects enhanced measures in Cornwall to deal with spikes in the Covid Delta variant. He says there should be no lockdown, but there may be advanced measures and help for the region; however, he did not speculate what these might be!
In the week to 21st August, Cornwall had 4650 cases, a rise of 2,429 (109.4%) which is a case rate of 808 per 100,000.
Bude is one of the lesser affected areas with 59 cases, up 24 (68.6%) or 553.10 per 100,000.
Places like St Columb Minor and Porth have a rate of 1832.5 per 100,000. Padstow sits at 1096.1 per 100,000.
Particular issues in Cornwall seem to have been:
- High numbers of visitors (probably not all testing)
- Previous lower rates if infection (so fewer antibodies) and vaccination among the younger adults still in early days
