Sam Roberts Inspires Bude Army Cadets

By Ali Harper:

Last Monday Sam Roberts, owner of Atlantic Pursuits in Bude, came to speak about his life in the Special Forces.

Sam explained that he had never really talked about this part of his life before and we felt privileged to be part of it.

With a difficult early life and not being academic Sam found escape in the mountains of North Wales. As he made friends, one in particular mentored him, and encouraged him to join 21 SAS in London. Selection for this Regiment is notoriously fearsome and Sam passed at the age of 18 making him one of the youngest ever to pass. To pass at such a young age is remarkable. Sam served for 9 years with both the Reserves and Regular Regiment.

Throughout his talk, Sam drew out life lessons for the cadets as well as lessons about leadership. This was excellent as we are committed at Bude Army Cadets to preparing young people to be leaders. What Sam said resonated well with the young people and they were very enthusiastic about his visit.

If you are interested in the cadet force, either as a young person or an adult volunteer, do get in touch. You can email the detachment commander, 2Lt Alistair Harper, on 490Harpe@armymail.mod.uk.
