There was a major crash on the A39 near Roundswell last night. Roads were closed, and vehicles were alight in the serious incident which is said to have occurred just off the Roundswell roundabout in the direction of Bideford.
Two fire appliances from Barnstaple and one from Braunton were mobilised to the incident. On arrival, crews found this to be a high speed road traffic collision, with both vehicles well alight.
Five casualties were pulled from the vehicles by passers – by prior to fire service arrival. Two ambulances, two paramedic cars and the HART team were also in attendance. All casualties were conveyed to hospital by land ambulances.
The vehicle fires were extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets, one covering jet, two dry powder extinguishers, foam and small tools.
