How fortunate we are to have RHS Rosemoor Gardens within an hour’s drive of Bude! Their 5 week celebration of roses begins this weekend and continues until 22 July. I visited there on Thursday afternoon last week and had a wonderful time. We actually could have just sat in one of the two dedicated Rose Gardens for the whole afternoon just inhaling the heady scent of the fabulous roses. However we also enjoyed a very pleasant stroll around the gardens (the weather behaving itself if slightly blowy that afternoon) and we had a delicious lunch in the Café.
There are more than 2,000 roses there covering 200 different varieties of every colour shade and perfume. There is a rose to suit every garden and if you feel inspired to buy one, there is a large selection in the garden plant sales area.
There are several special events being held over the next five weeks including the actual Rose Weekend (20-22nd June) where you can get specialist rose advice, take free guided walks around the stunning rose gardens and browse the floral-themed craft fair in The Garden Room. There will also be ‘Late openings’ every Friday in July when the garden will be open until 9pm so that visitors can enjoy the gardens at dusk when the roses release their evening scent! Sounds fabulous doesn’t it? There are full details on the RHS Rosemoor website. Photos are by me!
