Palm oil warning on Bude beaches

Thanks to Penbode Vets who yesterday posted on their Facebook page a warning against palm oil which had been washed up in large quantities at Summerleaze and Upton beaches. It is poisonous to dogs. The product can wash up at any time i there are cargo leakages at sea.

Some people described the warning as scaremongering as they hadn’t seen any, but your dog may look where you don’t!

Palm oil is used in snack foods and many other products. After a long time in the sea, it solidifies, becoming a problem for wildlife and domestic pets.

Penbode says: Palm oil is highly toxic to dogs – please DO NOT allow your dog to eat it and avoid areas where possible.

The image Penbode used isn’t from Bude but it gives a good idea of what to look out for.
