From Devon & Cornwall Police:
Emergency services remain at the scene of a serious multi-vehicle collision on the A30 at Cheriton Bishop which left two people injured, one critically.
Police, fire and ambulance were called at 7.40am today [28 August] following a collision involving a large number of vehicles.
Involved were three cars – a Ford Ka, a Renault Megane and a Ford Fiesta – a Ford Transit van, and a four-vehicle combination of a lorry towing a small and large trailer plus a caravan.
The female driver of the Ford Ka sustained multiple serious injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance. The woman, in her 30s, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The male driver of the HGV also sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Both carriageways remain closed and are likely to remain shut for at least two more hours Officers are working hard to first open one lane westbound.
Diversions are in place westbound at Fingle Glen/Pathfinder and eastbound at Woodleigh junction. Police are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible for the time being.
One lane will remain closed in both directions overnight for repairs to be made to a substantial stretch of damaged central reservation barrier.
