New depot for WPD at Stratton Business Park

Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distribution network operator for the South West, has opened a new  £3million operational depot which runs on solar energy, at Bude’s Stratton Business Park.

All new WPD buildings, the depot has been constructed to the highest environmental standards and has been awarded an excellent rating by the world’s leading environmental assessment process, BREEAM.

BREEAM is the world’s leading environmental assessment process and is the UK standard for excellence in building design, procurement and construction. In addition, the depot has also been awarded an A+ rated Energy Performance Certificate from the Energy Saving Trust.

WPD’s Property Estates Manager, David Withers said: “The building comes equipped with lighting and water saving measures, while the solar panels make the depot self-sufficient in terms of generating electricity for staff. It has been constructed in line with our and is the result of a commitment by WPD to design and deliver a highly sustainable, low carbon buildings.”
