Mr #BigUpBude – Trev’s Taxi

I first wrote about Taxi Trev (as Vicko calls him) well before the days of #BigUpBude in 2012. He’s still here, and still offering an efficient and wonderful service to Bude, for which he is a recognised cultural ambassador.

What’s great about Trev is his unstinting support for the Bude community.  #LoveBude #LoveWhereYouLive #BigUpBude – all applies here. He supports other local businesses, too, whether by using their products or services himself, sticking their business cards in his cab, or spreading the word via social media. You can even get my book from him!  As one might expect, he also seems to know EVERYONE! I have always liked his motto: what’s said in the taxi stays in the taxi. He is true to his word.

I first met Trev briefly at Rosie’s Kitchen, Crooklets, where we were able to sit outside over a cuppa in the winter sun. It was amazing for January, rather like this January has been.

Trev (never Trevor) moved to Bude in 2007 from Whitchurch in Shropshire. He very honestly says he drives his taxi simply so he can live in Bude, and walk his beautiful rescue dog – George – daily on the beaches, come rain or shine, though he also enjoys meeting people. That said, he offers great service, whether for a short local trip, or a long one. He regularly seems to drive to train stations, airports, and recently went as far as Scotland!

Most of his work comes at weekends, and 80% of it is local.  He generally keeps busy, and he has always supported Bude & Beyond, for which I thank him.

When we first met, I was very taken by his emphatic praise for the town, and that has not changed:

I love it here. I love the beach, love the locals. Everyone is friendly. I just work and walk my dog, and play the odd game of pool (

He likes to support local business and reckons he has eaten almost everywhere locally.

Bude people do things for the town and lots of places have lost that. It has a good community feel. It has soul“. He adds:  “I adore this place. I’ve found home and I’ll never leave here“.

Bude does have this way of getting under your skin!

Having also moved to Bude just over 2 years ago to have a stress free change of lifestyle, we met Trev in the local pub and got to know him and we would say he is a trustworthy and knowledgeable chap, easy to get on with, We bought The Bude Haven Guest House formerly known as the Bude Haven Hotel and we use Trev’s taxi as often as we can. His videos of Bude come thick and fast and show just what Bude -and what it has to offer – is like. Keep up the good work, Trev.
