Last night was my second week at the new SALSA class that is being held in Bridgerule Village Hall. The class goes under the title of ‘SALSA BUDE’ although geographically in Devon. As it’s only 15 minutes up the road from Bude and not subject to the across-border clotted cream controversy, I am very happy to ‘cross the line’.
The group has been going for 3 weeks now and started with a Free Taster Session which was attended by 50 would-be dancers. Last week 35 attended and a similar number last night. This is very encouraging for Steve Marvell who was instrumental in bringing the tutor, Abes Cisse, down to Bridgerule to teach from Exeter, where he manages Salsa Exeter. This is how the evening goes
Doors open at 7:00 pm
7:00pm – 7:30pm (Meet and Greet)
7:30 pm – 8:45 pm (Salsa Footwork suitable for all)
8:30 pm – 9:30 pm (Salsa with a partner)
9:30 pm till end Practice and Social)…
It’s obviously important for numbers to stay at a reasonable level for the group to continue and flourish. They would love to see more men come along in particular but, of course, everyone is welcome. If you are paying weekly the cost is £6 per class. A block of 6 classes is £30. The group is very friendly and welcoming and Salsa very addictive. Don’t worry if you have never danced before as the basic steps are relatively easy and at each class, you will improve. It’s also great exercise; I step counted last night and reached 5k in a couple of hours dancing!
As the class continues it is hoped it will become more and more a social gathering, as it’s a great way to get to know people who live locally. So why not pop along to Bridgerule Village Hall next Thursday and join in the fun?
