Martin to chop his curls for charity…

Hard to imagine #2MinuteBeachClean’s Martin Dorey without his mop of curls, but it’s really happening – and all for a good cause. This is primarily from his Giving page to tell you why it’s happening.

In January 2004, just after her first birthday, Martin’s daughter, Maggie, was diagnosed with AML, an aggressive form of leukaemia.

She spent six months in hospital in Bristol undergoing treatment and received incredible care from the doctors and nurses. But taking care of medical needs was just a small part of the process, explains Martin. Life ground to a halt and nothing else mattered. Thankfully the family had help from charities who could step in and assist with all the little things, like petrol costs for hospital visits, social workers and support, playrooms, a place for the family to stay. It’s small but vital stuff for families coming to terms with serious illness.

This year Care For Kids North Devon are fundraising to upgrade one of the rooms on The Caroline Thorpe Ward at North Devon District Hospital. Martin is the charity’s patron, so thought he’d do something to help. Maggie lost her hair as a result of her leukaemia so it seemed fitting to Martin to lop his off to mark her 15th birthday, which is on the 8th January.

On 6th January Maggie and her sister, Charlie (who was born in Bristol during Maggie’s treatment) will help to chop off his lovely curly locks. It’s time for a new start anyway. And what better way to do it than to raise some cash for the things that matter?

Thanks for helping.
