Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were paged at 20:14 yesterday following a report that an elderly gentleman had collapsed into Bude Sea Pool.
With the Devon Air Ambulance inbound and the South West Ambulance Service also attending, the team were requested to assist in the recovery of the casualty from the Sea Pool, and to provide a safe and crowd-free zone from which the helicopter could depart.
Arriving on-scene on Summerleaze Downs, (no easy feat as the team do not have a key to the barrier preventing vehicle access onto the downs) the team and the Coastguard Rescue vehicle made their way to the helicopter.
Half the team descended the steps to the casualty to provide assistance to the paramedics and the others ensured that members of the public were at a safe distance from the helicopter prior to take-off.
Once the casualty had been recovered to the helicopter by stretcher, the helicopter departed the scene safely, and the team were thereafter stood down.
