Major incident declared when ship ran aground off Cornwall

A major incident was declared after a container ship ran aground off Cornwall today.

At around 5am this morning (18/12) a 180 metre cargo ship ran aground just off Gyllyngvase beach, Falmouth.

Coastguard controlled the area and all 18 crew, believed to be Russian nationals, were accounted for. At one point, there were concerns of fuel leaks from the Kuzma Minin.

The ship was successfully refloated just after 2 pm, assisted by five harbour based tugs and a salvage vessel with no pollution report.
