M & S to close Bideford outlet store

The North Devon Gazette has reported that Marks & Spencer is to close its outlet store at Bideford’s Affinity Devon (formerly Atlantic Village). This is a shame as it is probably the highlight of the outlet village.

The lease is up for renewal next year and Marks & Spencer has confirmed it will not be renewing. Staff (or colleagues as they are known) will be redeployed to Barnstaple and other ‘nearby’ stores.

To be fair, the outlet village is often very quiet, so maybe there simply is not enough trade to keep the M & S there going. Additionally, many people have discussed the demise of M & S fashion for some time. Tough times in the clothing industry.

We recently visited the Affinity Devon centre and were very disappointed. There was certainly nothing in the M&S store worth buying. The quality of M&S clothing has dropped her dramatically over the last few years; I won’t even buy socks and underwear from them anymore.
The only store we bought anything in was Mountain Warehouse, always good for outdoor clothing.
Affinity Devon need to attract some decent outlet stores before we return again.
