Another view from the 1900’s with posed (and possibly painted-in figures – the old version of photoshopping) has been hand-tinted from a black and white original, a process which had variable results, often ending with peculiar colour choices!

Another indifferently hand-tinted photo from the 1900’s, with changing tents and fully-dressed beachgoers. Someone at the printers couldn’t spell Maer but the card did come all the way from Germany.

Early image looking from Summerleaze Downs towards Crooklets about the 1890’s; the house next to the end has yet to be built, although it looks as if work is about to start on its construction.

Crooklets – Petrified Forest

Under the sands of Crooklets beach lies what has been described as a petrified forest; certainly, whilst laying transatlantic cables in the 1990’s, the diggers came across semi-fossilised plant and tree material. This shot shows some of that material, which is very seldom exposed to view.
