Our book, Thorns of Bude – Pioneers of Photography – Tintagel to Clovelly, has scooped the top prize at the recent Gorsedd Kernow, Holyer an Gof, awards. Photos are by Holyer an Gof.
From the Cornish Times:-
“The Holyer an Gof Trophy, for the most outstanding entry in the whole competition, was awarded to Thorns of Bude by David Thorn and Stuart Thorn, published by Halsgrove.”
From the Falmouth Packet:-
“A special award is given to the writers of the best entry in the entire competition, known as the Holyer an Gof Trophy, and this year it was awarded to David and Stuart Thorn for their publication, Thorn’s of Bude.
Accepting the award, David said: “Our relatives are the real stars of this book, I don’t think anyone had ever taken photographs in Bude before.”
This was a complete surprise for Stuart and me, we did not win the category award that our book was entered for, we came in the last four. But to win the overall prize shocked us not a little bit! We are delighted that all our work has been recognised by this illustrious Cornish organisation, for its content, design and presentation. The cup was presented by Merv Davey, Telynyor an Weryn, Grand Bard of Cornwall, on Tuesday 11th July in Truro.
