Illegal hunting activity to be investigated

Many people have long been suspicious that illegal hunting activity takes place under the guise of trail hunting, so it is good to see that there are police investigations into such alleged offences.

This involved an incident near Okehampton on Boxing Day involving allegations of offences against the Hunting Act.

The matter is being investigated and police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and directly witnessed the incident.

We would encourage witnesses to any offences to share unedited footage and images with us, and to be prepared to give statements to allow us to fully investigate any allegation of criminality.

Please contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 0393 of 27/12/18.

We are aware of the sensitivities and the high-emotions that are linked to these incidents. All allegations connected with hunts are assessed and investigated appropriately and we work with our communities who have an interest in hunt activity as part of routine policing.

We wish to reassure the public that we will act impartially and promptly to any incident reported to us, and would urge anyone with relevant information to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101@dc.police.uk or via 101.
