A car crashed into historic Helland Bridge on the Camel Trail yesterday, meaning the bridge has now been closed due to structural damage.
The picturesque medieval bridge over the River Camel is a Grade I listed structure in the parish of St Mabyn. Built from local slate and stone rubble, it originally dates from the early 15th century. Three metres wide, it is quite often slightly damaged by large vehicles.
Witnesses reported a “big chunk of bridge was hanging off”.
