Gearing up for Bude Heritage Day

Don’t you just love Bude in the summertime when there are loads of events going on?

One of my favourites is Heritage Day (good weather this year, please).

This comes from the Castle Facebook page. Why reinvent the wheel?

One of Bude’s most anticipated events, Bude-Stratton Heritage Festival, will be held this year on Sunday 21st July, from 11 am – 4 pm. Free entry.

The day – which is organised and paid for by Bude-Stratton Town Council – is geared towards providing a fun and free day out for the community, to celebrate our town and local heritage.

There have already been some exciting activities confirmed that are sure to entertain the whole family, including: a vintage fairground with amusements and rides for both children and adults, a bird of prey display, a bouncy castle and surf simulator, a dog show organised by Tamar Vets (money raised from the dog show will go to local wildlife rehabilitator, Sue Clancy Gear, of Born to be Wild), a race on the canal with the Pilot Gig Club, and much, much more.
There will also be ‘fete style’ show classes again, and the classes will be announced soon. And plenty of stalls from a range of local businesses to browse, too.

There will also be live music all day, from familiar names like the Bideford Pipers, Bude Metric Brass, The Countrymen and Bude Town Band. There will also be a Cornish clog dancing group, the Carnkie Cloggers, providing entertainment on the day.

Heritage Day will be celebrating Bude Canal’s 200th birthday, as the construction of the canal began on 23rd July 1819, so there will be events and activities during Heritage Day to mark the occasion, with Bude Canal Society featuring full-size replica “tub boats” of Bude Canal design, courtesy of Mr A Wills of Bideford.

All of the attractions and activities for Bude Heritage Day will be centred around The Castle and its grounds, The Bark House Lawns on the Bude Canal Wharf (opposite the Olive Tree) and also in and around the Parkhouse Centre.

If you’d like to find out more about Bude Heritage Day or are interested in having a stall on the day, please call 01288 357 300 or email thecastle@bude-stratton.gov.uk.
