From the Maritime Agency:
A fisherman with a severely injured hand was airlifted to hospital in the early hours of this morning by HM Coastguard Newquay helicopter.
HM Coastguard was called at around 02 15 hours to help the fisherman who had severely injured his hand and urgently needed to be taken to hospital.
Newquay Coastguard helicopter crew (Capt Debdash Bhattacharya, Co-Pilot Damien May, Winch Operator Jason Bibby and Winchman Paramedic Julien ‘Bungi’ Williams) had just finished a three-hour medevac from the Isles of Scilly to Truro when they were tasked to this incident.
Flying through 40kn winds with 5m very rough seas raging below, the Coastguard helicopter crew made their way to the German-flagged trawler, which was positioned 25nm south east of the Isles of Scilly.
After arriving on scene they lowered their Paramedic Winchman onboard to treat the casualty. They secured the man and winched him into the aircraft where he was taken to Treliske Hospital, where we wish him a speedy recovery.
