Two Firefighters from Bude Fire Station assisted colleagues at Devon and Cornwall Police yesterday evening to search for an elderly couple who were stranded in their vehicle in the Holsworthy area, after it broke down and their mobile phone ran out of battery.

Using one of the 4×4 water rescue vehicles the crew, joined by two Police officers, travelled along the A388 towards Great Torrington to try and locate the vehicle. After travelling a distance along the A388 contact was made with the couple who had managed to get to a nearby hotel and seek refuge there.

The couple were checked over by a Devon Co-Responder and reported safe and well.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving a number of calls during the early hours in relation to the weather conditions in the area.
