Around 8 pm last night, an appliance from Bude and a further one from Holsworthy attended a call to beach huts on fire on Summerleaze Beach.
On arrival, the crew confirmed that three huts were well alight and used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the blaze.
The beach huts were destroyed in the fire. The cause is believed to be arson, and Police were in attendance.
Great work from the Bude Firefighters who posted this on their Facebook page after a busy night last night:
A busy night for Bude: first mobilised at 20.30 to a domestic property in Boscastle, along with crews from Delabole Community Fire Station, Wadebridge Community Fire Station and Bodmin Community Fire Station. On arrival, there was significant fire damage to the building due to the strong winds ‘fanning’ the fire. There were no serious injuries however the building suffered from partial collapse.
Whilst one crew was out at Boscastle, the second crew from Bude were mobilised to reports of beach huts well alight on Summerleaze Beach, 3 of which were destroyed by fire due to suspected arson, which will be investigated by the Police.
Moments after returning home from Boscastle, a crew was then mobilised to Launceston Community Fire Station to provide cover in the Launceston area whilst their crews dealt with an area of approximately 30 hectares of gorse on fire in the Laneast area. The crew from Bude arrived home at approximately 06.00 am.
Thank you to Holsworthy Fire Station for covering Bude whilst both our crews were committed to other incidents.
