Give a rod licence this Father’s Day and join in the fun on 16 June. Children do not need a licence until they are 12, so Dad could take them fishing with him!
The 2013 river coarse fishing season starts on Father’s Day and Environment Agency annual rod licence holders can take a friend or family member fishing with them for free by visiting the Take a Friend Fishing website and obtaining a voucher.
Rod licences are valid on over 5,000 rivers, lakes and ponds across England.
‘Fishing remains one of the nation’s favourite outdoor sports with over 1.2 million rod licences sold each year. The funds raised play a crucial part in protecting and improving fisheries and in providing better access to fishing. The angling trade is a £1.2 billion industry and employs over 39,000 people, particularly in rural areas,’ said Martin Williams for the Environment Agency.
‘Fishing is a fantastic way to enjoy the open air, our wildlife and our waterways and it’s great to go fishing with the family. It is one of the cheapest and most popular sports and makes a great Father’s Day gift. It’s quick and easy to buy a rod licence online at the Post Office and children under 12 can join in the fun for free.’
Buy a rod licence by calling the Environment Agency on 0844 800 5386, visiting any Post Office branch or visiting the Post Office online.
