Face masks to be worn in secondary schools

In an update to their operational guidance, the government has announced that from January 4th, it is recommended that face coverings should be worn in classrooms containing year 7 and above (secondary) which will affect Budehaven School.

This does not apply in situations where wearing a face covering would impact on the ability to take part in exercise or strenuous activity, for example in PE lessons and will be a temporary measure. Pupils in these schools must also wear a face covering when travelling on public transport and should wear it on dedicated transport to and from school.

Teachers are not expected to wear face coverings when ‘delivering lessons’ (aka teaching).

In primary schools, government recommendations are that face coverings should be worn by staff and adults (including visitors) when moving around in corridors and communal areas. Children are not expected to wear them in primary schools.

There are, of course, caveats in the full document.
