Driver who gave false info to Bude police sentenced

From Bude Police Facebook page:

On Tuesday 14th January 2020 at about 21:00hrs local officers stopped an Audi A4 on Stratton Road, Bude near the temporary traffic lights.

The driver initially gave false details to officers and was arrested for driving without insurance and obstructing police.

In custody the driver gave another set of false details, but was correctly identified via fingerprints and was confirmed as currently a disqualified driver. This male is not local and from the Suffolk area.

The male was remanded in custody to appear before Bodmin Magistrates Court this morning where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 weeks in custody at HMP Exeter and a further Disqualification period from driving of 42 months to start upon his release from custody.

This is a great result and I’m glad the court issued an appropriate sentence for someone who continues to break the law and potentially put other road users in our lovely town at risk. m

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the resident that had their driveway obstructed whilst recovery were on way to collect the offender’s vehicle. In an ideal situation I would have had another officer free to remove / reposition this vehicle but unfortunately there were no other resources until the Night Shift
started. I will look to visit this resident personally to offer my apologies and a full explanation why it was unavoidable.
